Congratulations to MCA Champion 2010, Div 2 Champion and the Volunteers

After a hotly contested game, Friends CC snatched the game away from Lions, and are crowned the MCA 2010 Champion. Congratulations !

Knights fought hard and calculated, and continued their impressive form. Congratulation to them as well for winning the Division 2 championship. We welcome them to Division 1 from Season 2011. Congratulations and Welcome !

Some great performances all around and lets not forget the tough fight put up by the runner-ups — Lions and Windies. They fought till the end with great sportsmanship. I salute you for your excellent sportsmen spirit, and wish you best of luck for next time.

All four Umpires and the Match referee, I Thank You for your support and administration of the game within the stipulated rules and regulation. Indeed, it was a job well done. Your passion and dedication to the game is well appreciated and admired.

It started as overcast, breezy but turned out a nice, cool and sometimes hot day. I am pleasantly surprised and impressed to witness huge attendance at the ground. The diverse crowd at the ground, including locals, kids and families is a testimony of how hard and passionately the volunteers worked to make it a success. It would be a crime to not mention Pradeep Reddy, Nandika Dias, Lochan Samkaran and an army of their volunteer team, who were spread all around the ground and facilitated the Members Day. As an Executive, I am impressed as well as humbled to have such a dedicated MCA Membership.

I dedicate the success of the Members Day to our passionate and dedicated volunteers led by Pradeep Reddy. Thank YOU a bunch!

For all volunteers fasting and especially from Cosmos CC, who stayed till the end along with other volunteers, MCA Executives Thank You for your support.

For those who preferred to remain isolated and not participate by volunteering with MCA, you missed a great deal and let down your community. We are disappointed with your absence. With a roaster of 15+ players each team, it is hard to understand why there were no volunteers from a few teams, even though you were assigned tasks, informed and communicated well ahead of time. Fines and penalties aside, it was a time to celebrate as a community, and unless a valid reason was communicated to MCA, You let your fellow volunteers down, and it is a shame.

I look forward to your participation in the T/20 Championship starting this weekend. The schedule is posted online and downloadable. Please review and inform us of any infractions.

Enjoy rest of the Cricket Season of whatever is left of it. We value your input, and look forward to hearing from you.

Posted by Vice President On July - 30 - 2010 Comments Off

MCA Executives congratulate the PROs on the successful completion of the first phase of the kid’s coaching, and the youth bowling camp. I saw a lot of enthusiasm from the parents (I am being one of them) and the kids. They have thoroughly enjoyed and already asking me when is the next one. A great success indeed.

MCA Member’s day is now under consideration for another camp. More details to follow.

MPRB adopts expanded Tobacco Use policy

MPRB adopts expanded Tobacco Use policy

Starting July 1, 2010, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will expand its Tobacco Use Policy to include all tobacco products and increase tobacco-free perimeters in key family-friendly park and recreation areas.

The policy, adopted at the May 5 meeting of the MPRB Board of Commissioners, stipulates there will be no smoking or use of any tobacco product as follows:

1. Within any MPRB-owned or leased building, vehicles or equipment.
2. Within 100 feet of the entrance to any MPRB-owned or leased building.
3. Inside the designated perimeter or within 100 feet of any playground, beach, wading pool, swimming pool or water play area.
4. Within the bleachers or stands or within 50 feet of any youth athletic field or youth athletic contest.
5. Anywhere in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary, Lyndale Park Gardens, Peace Garden, Rose Garden, Roberts Bird Sanctuary, Longfellow Gardens, Lake Harriet Band Shell, and the Wirth Winter Recreation Area.
6. At any permitted event; however the event may apply for a waiver to this policy.

“The MPRB already adheres to the 1990 Clean Air Act, but this policy expands the tobacco-free perimeters around our buildings, as well as outside family-friendly activities,” said John Erwin, President of the Board of Commissioners. “We are grateful for the efforts of the Tobacco-Free Youth Recreation, which approached us about expanding our policy. We also received valuable input from the public and we believe our policy reflects that.”

Tobacco-Free Youth Recreation made a presentation to the Board on March 3, 2010, in support of a tobacco-free policy, citing a February 2010 phone survey by Grove Insight. The survey found that 65 percent supported tobacco-free parks in the Minneapolis Park System. Seventy-six percent favored tobacco-free concession areas; 73 percent favored tobacco-free band shell areas and amphitheaters; and 71 percent favored tobacco-free beaches.

As part of its public awareness efforts, the MPRB will post signs in tobacco-free areas and staff will monitor the recreation facilities and programs in those areas. Violators of the policy may be asked to leave the designated tobacco-free area, facility and/or program.
